NATIONAL COUNCIL COMMITTEE STRUCTURES
The following reflects the Committee Structure of the National Council and the main aspects being dealt with. Further information on specific committees and activities can be obtained through “Contact Us” menu.
The Management Committee carries out the work of the Council according the general policy of the Council and to any special instructions laid down or given to it from time to time.
Standing and sub-committees and Provincial Associations report to the Management Committee on matters requiring consideration and action.
The Executive Committee deals with interim matter as are delegated o it by the Management Committee.
STANDING AND SUB-COMMITTEES
The Management Committee has the power to appoint Standing and sub-committees to deal with specific issues. Affiliated organisations are closely involved in the activities of the committees.
Briefly, the activities of the committees are as follows:
This is a special committee which deals with all the financial aspects of the Council’s activities in close consultation with the Council’s auditors.
COMMITTEE ON POLICIES AND SERVICES
Has legal expertiseand in the main deals with constitutional and lobbying natters. Particular attention is given to the Council’s constitution to ensure hat it meets with the requirements of the Non Profit Organisations Act.
Provide creative suggestions in order for NCPPDSA structures to follow through on transformation objectives.
Consisting of medical experts, this committee operates in an advisory capacity as and when required, on maters in the medical filed which might require clarification and interpretation.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Social Development Committee guides and prepares the submission of information to government authorities as and when requested and in turn keep affiliated organisations informed on relevant matters as prescribed at national government level which affect the rendering of services at grass roots level.
The Education Committee, whose membership consit of experts from Education Departments and special schools, attend to all matters related to the quality of education for learners with special educational needs. A close watch is being kept on legislation concerning education.
RESOURCE MOBILIZATION COMMITTEE
This Committee is tasked with identifying fund raising projects ad guide the Task Teams of each such Projects.
WORK AND EMPLOYMENT COMMITEE
Persons with specific expertise in the work and employment field, as well as representatives from relevant government departments are included in the membership of the Work and Employment Committee. A close watch is being kept on legislation concerning i.e. Employment Equity, Training, Guidelines, etc.
The Accessibility Committee functions in close corporation with Provincial Associations, Government Departments, local authorities and organisations such as the S A Institute of Architects, the S A Bureau of Standards and the S A Qualifications Authority.
To enable persons with physical disabilities to function to their full potential as other citizens, it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the environment is accessible.
At times the Council is entrusted with the administration of trust funds and donations for specific projects / purposes. The Projects Sub-Committee considers fully motivated applications from affiliated associations and institutions, attends to the allocation of such funds and follows up progress of projects.
Operating on an ad hoc basis, this committee from time to time considers meritorious awards to individuals and companies who have supported the organisation in an exceptional way.
PROMOTION AND AWARENESS
This Committee assists the National Council with all printed material such as the Annual report, and all promotional and awareness issues.
NATIONAL COUNCIL REHABILITATION INTERNATIONAL SUB-COMMITTEE
The National Council is an Organisational member of Rehabilitation International. The Council’s sub-committee has been tasked with considering all matters related to issues referred to the Council by Rehabilitation International and attendance by representatives of the Council at International Conferences and meetings of Rehabilitation International.
EASTER STAMP FUND RAISING CO-ORDNATING COMMITTEE
Consisting of members of the National Council and Provincial Easter Stamp Fund Organisers, this committee annually considers the implementation of and campaign material for the Annual Easter Stamp Fund Campaign.
